ABOUT

At Early Learning Day Home Agency, our mission is to deliver exceptional, developmentally enriching child care grounded in a play-based, child-centered philosophy. Guided by the core principles of FLIGHT: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework, we are committed to nurturing children’s curiosity, creativity, and sense of belonging.

Approved and regulated by Alberta Children and Family Services, our agency is founded on professionalism, strong relationships, and open communication. We believe the first five years are foundational, and that children learn best through meaningful play experiences, responsive relationships, and inclusive environments.

Serving families across the Edmonton area, we create resource-rich, multicultural, and welcoming learning spaces that honor each child’s strengths, interests, and unique ways of knowing. Our educators support child-led, open-ended play that promotes cognitive, social, emotional, and language development, preparing children for long-term success.

Our curriculum emphasizes:

• Learning through purposeful, play-based activities
• Valuing children’s voices, ideas, and intentions
• Strong, reciprocal relationships between children, families, and educators
• Diversity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness
• Flexibility to adapt to children’s evolving interests
• Continuous professional learning and educator excellence

At Early Learning Day Home Agency, we connect families with qualified early childhood professionals, guide them through a smooth enrollment process, and provide access to community supports that enhance family well-being.

Rooted in our belief that play empowers learning, we are dedicated to creating environments where every child can grow, thrive, and reach their fullest potential.

We consider our educators professional caregivers, who are truly interested in providing high-quality care for children by supervising them and taking time to make sure they reach developmental milestones, socialize, learn, and grow.

Each year, Early Learning Day Home Agency reviews and revises its policies and procedures outlined to ensure childcare standards continue to meet or exceed the requirements set up by Early Learning and Child Care Act, Early Learning and Child Care Regulations, and Family Day Homes Standards Manual for Alberta.

Regular Hours of Care

The Alberta Child Care guidelines recommend standard hours of operation from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

As self-employed professionals, FDH Educators have the flexibility to set their own working hours. Educators provide their hours of operation in writing, based on both parental needs and their availability. This information is used by the agency to support appropriate child placements.

Agency Procedure for Backup Care

  • Families are advised of the backup care policy at registration and must understand that they may be required to access backup care in certain situations. There are three options:

    • The family may choose to arrange for backup care.

    • Day home educator arranges backup care approved by the agency when she cannot care for the children.

    • The agency helps families make suitable backup arrangements with other agency-approved FDH educators.

  • The agency has a list of other FDH educators and their contact information in the area.

  • The parent must give written prior approval to all backup care arrangements.

  • Should the parent be subsidized, the agency pays only agency-approved backup educators. Subsidy funds cannot be issued to the parent.

  • Back-up care planning takes into consideration family needs. e.g., transportation to and from school.

Incorporating Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) into the Programming

Our FDH Educators:

  • focus on development for a specific age group to plan experiences and the environment.

  • understand that each child is unique.

  • allow time for child-guided experiences in small and large groups.

  • respect the social and cultural context of each individual child.

  • support children’s play

Examples of Developmentally Appropriate Practice – Setting Up The Playroom

Our FDH Educators:

  • Provide age-appropriate and culturally appropriate materials. (ex. infant, toddler, or preschool)

  • Having materials and equipment at children’s height. (ex. chairs, bookshelves, and activity shelves)

  • Spaces accommodate the movement of children.

  • Having play areas that provide manipulatives, puzzles, music and movement, books, dramatic play, blocks, physical materials for large muscles (ex. push toys), and sensory materials. (ex. sand and water)

  • Frequently changing materials and equipment to reflect children’s interests and needs.

Use of Childcare App – Lillio

The agency is using Lillio, an amazing resource for parents and educators! As a parent using Lillio, you can access real-time updates about your child’s day, a messaging center for easy communication with your child’s educator, information about your child’s daily schedule, and access to monthly newsletters and childcare resources.
